Galaxy Zoo

This is a pretty neat little site I heard about on the radidio- Galaxy Zoo.

It turns out that the massively parallel processing power of human beings is superior at pattern recognition than any of the super-powerful computers astronomers have at their disposal. So you can help them identify galaxies, stars, and unusual galactic artifacts by answering a series of simple questions about various images taken by one of the world’s most powerful telescopes. Plus, the images themselves are hauntingly beautiful examples of the majesty and mystery of deep space.

How neat is that?

  1. It’s very cool. I went and checked it out after you messaged me about it. I’d like to look into a really awesome telescope some day and, you know, SEE things. Celestial things.
